In Judaism there is a concept called תיקון עולם-Tikkun Olam, or literally repair the world. I feel that my capstone project embodies Touro's Judaic Values in education. Over the course of the school year students learned how to take deep calming breaths in order to focus. With this students are able to repair on their own. By empowering the students to determine when they need to take a breath on their own the student is able to become more independent and confident; thus, able to take the reigns of their own learning. From here, I will share my research with the new staff I will be a part of at Pennycook Elementary. Originally, I thought it would be best to share this research with grades that took the CAASPP test. However, if even younger students are able to begin practicing taking control of their test anxiety then they will be even more prepared. Each individual is valuable, diverse, curious, and has the ability to go out to change the world. As teachers we are simply the facilitators of this journey.

Catie, I LOVE the concepts from Judaism that you shared--how beautiful! Your project will give students skills that will last them their whole lives and will extend far beyond the classroom and school settings! I love your project and really, really hope we can all stay connected to see how our work continues. You have been such a light this past year and it has been my honor to learn alongside you!

Thank you for the cultural sharing! I love the concept that you spoke about in your blog and hope that all of us are doing our small part in each of our classrooms to repair the world, student by student! your work is so important, especially in an area like Vallejo. Growing up in Vallejo there was a persistent negative image of our beautiful hometown. By you empowering our young students they will be able to see past the negativity that often surrounds Vallejo and find strength within themselves.
